DOBSONVILLE JOSHCO PROJECT RESUME
Dobsonville social housing, having been introduced by the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO), has finally been resumed after a long delay. JOSHCO Management announced that the site was handed over to a new Contractor: Murray and Dickson on April 20 and construction work commenced on May 16. The CEO: Anthony Ngcezula said before the restart of building process all parties will ensure that there are no more strikes that would hinder the construction process.
An agreement was reached prior to the construction commencement for JOSHCO to meet with its stakeholders. Public engagements, closed meetings with different groups, individuals, Small Micro Medium Enterprises (SMME’s), Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), skilled and semi-skilled workers were held to discuss the challenges faced previously as a way to prevent a repeat of same. “All the parties involved were content with the solutions and mitigation strategies was put in place to avoid any conflict on site,” explained Ngcezula. The construction of the Dobsonville project will be completed in November 2018 and people will start moving into the flats sometime, early 2019. The project will yield a total of 502 units, 152 one bedrooms, and 350 two bedrooms unit consisting of a kitchen, dining room and bathroom. The other alternative flats are bachelor which consist of one bedroom, open plan kitchen, dining room and bathroom.
